Loughborough Foxes Women were blown away in a 4-0 defeat by fellow unbeaten rivals Coventry United Ladies.
The hosts started very quickly and were on the front foot for large portions of the first half.
Lois Jefferies went close with an early lob and Amy Wathan had a one-on-one opportunity but both were thwarted by a combination of last ditch defending from the back four and an important stop from Laura Parsons.
Coventry finally made the breakthrough just after quarter of an hour when Marie Gauntlett flicked home a free kick from the left wing.
Foxes best chances of the first half came from set pieces with the pick of the bunch coming from Kate Lowder, from a Laura Steele corned. Lowder was unable her effort down following Becky Knight’s flick on.
The hosts led by one at the break at the home of Daventry FC.
Foxes started much brighter in the second period and put Coventry on the back foot for the first real time in the game, but were unable to create a clear-cut chance on goal.
Gauntlett has hers and Coventry’s second of the game when she guided a fantastic cross from Amber Hughes from the right in off the far post. Gauntlett had a fine evening under the floodlights and hit the bar on two further occasions. One coming from an audacious free-kick and the other a header inside the penalty area.
Two quickly became three soon after as Helen Dermody capped off a fine display by dispatching her spot kick past Parsons.
Eva Rogers had a great chance to pull one back for the Foxes but her effort could only find the side netting.
Jefferies then put the icing on the cake for the hosts as she scored the goal of the game to make it four. Jefferies rectified her earlier lofted attempt with one even further out, this time a good 25 yards, which had the whole stadium applauding.
